WINTER sports enthusiasts with slopes for skiers of all levels - there are black, red and blue runs, as well as nursery slopes for beginners and small children and 72km of green, blue, red and black cross-country skiing tracks.
For those seeking stronger sensations, there is snow boarding, heli-skiing (glacier), monoskiing and, of course, paragliding with or without skis! Various ski excursions with experienced guides are also possible. As the slopes of the Samoëns ski resort are north facing, therefore conserving the snow layer for longer periods than other slopes, and as the Giffre Valley is oriented east-west at only 10 km from Mont Blanc as the crow flies, good quality snow is assured.
The non-skier can try snow racquets, ice-skating or dog-sleighing. Winter guests may wish to “take time out” for a day from Le Grand Massif and enlarge their ski experience by testing their skills at Le Praz de Lys, Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz or Chamonix - resorts all easily accessible by road.
SPRING, SUMMER and AUTUMN, as well as showing to perfection the bountiful flora and fauna of the area, are ideal seasons for mountain walking and climbing, paragliding, horse-riding, cycling, canoeing, rafting, tennis and swimming. Also, Verchaix is the perfect starting point for excursions to places such as Chamonix (Mont Blanc), Annecy, Yvoire, Evian and Thonon and, in neighbouring Switzerland, a day trip from Verchaix could be, for example, to Geneva, Lausanne, Gruyère or Montreux. Numerous sights of interest are within a one hour drive.
