West Sussex Vacations

West Sussex lies southwest of London with a coastline facing the English Channel. The county town is Chichester. West Sussex was at one point in time part of the Kingdom of Sussex, one of the ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in England beginning in the 5th century. The region is known for it's superb gardens and historic country estates. The coastal area is more heavily populated and has small coastal villages and resorts that extend from Brighton & Hove in the east to Bognor Regis in the west. Inland from the coast the countryside consists of the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park which extends through both East and West Sussex. Through the center of the South Downs National Park is the "South Downs Way" an ancient footpath and bridleway. The footpath (100 mi) runs over the green hills of the downs on its way from Hampshire to East Sussex, providing excellent walking and biking opportunities plus superb views. Another area of interest is the Chichester Harbour. The area is known for its charming harbour villages, fishing marinas, wildlife sanctuary and coastal habitats that are popular with numerous species of birds.
