Languedoc, or Languedoc Roussillon, is a region located along the southern region of France that is bordered by the regions of Midi-Pyrenees, Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne and Provence, the country of Spain and the Mediterranean Sea. The region of Languedoc France consists of the previous provinces, Languedoc and Roussillon. When Languedoc was a province, its boundaries were constantly changing. Roussillon was located in the extreme east of France and was made up of the Pyrenees Mountains and the Mediterranean coastal lowlands. However, Languedoc’s boundaries stretched as far to the east as the Rhône River, therefore also encompassing the Pyrenees Mountains and the Mediterranean coastal lowlands and providing numerous Languedoc holiday rentals. These two diverse areas provide wonderful historical villages, vineyards and beautiful landscape where you can find Languedoc France vacation rentals and Languedoc France holiday apartments and villas. Languedoc and Roussillon decided to combine into one region, which is now known as Languedoc Roussillon (or popularly known as the Languedoc). Languedoc France contains five departments: Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, Gard, Aude and Lozère. Lozère is the only department that is not situated on the Mediterranean coastal.

Languedoc Vacations: Things to see while on vacation in France

The capital of Languedoc France is the city of Montpellier, which has a flourishing historic center and is located in the Hérault department of Languedoc France. Montpellier has become a city that is acclaimed for its Languedoc vacations and Languedoc gites. One of the reasons for this is that the International Vine and Wine Fair is held in Montpellier each year. Also, the Place Royale du Peyrou and the Musée Fabre are both found in Montpellier. The Place Royale du Peyrou is a water tower that features both the Arc de Triomphe, built in 1692, and the Château d'Eau. The Musée Fabre is an art museum that contains some of the best collections of European art in France, including works that date back into the 16th century.

Other major and frequently visited cities of Languedoc Roussillon include Sète (also located in the Hérault department), Nimes (in the Gard department), Perpignan (in the Pyrénées-Orientales department) and Narbonne (in the Aude department). Sète is an area that tourists who enjoy relaxing on a beautiful beach, fishing or sailing typically visit. Along Sète’s miles of beach, one can find a wide variety of Languedoc accommodation and Languedoc gites which include chateaus, bed and breakfasts, Languedoc France gites and vacation houses. Nimes is an important city in Languedoc because it is home of the majority of the region’s manufacturing and farm-trade. Nimes produces a great amount of Languedoc’s wine, clothing and processed food. Perpignan and Narbonne, previously the region’s capital, are also significant cities for wine and clothing production. Perpignan contains the Casa Païral, which is a common attraction that sightseers come to Languedoc for. This museum, which was once a prison, encompasses a wide variety of Roussillon and Catalan folklore. By booking a Languedoc accommodation through, you will be able to explore the Casa Païral, as well as the many other sites that Languedoc offers.
