Val d Isere Vacations: Things to see while on vacation in Val d Isere Rhone Alps

Val d Isere is located deep in a valley that runs between huge mountains. It has a decidedly Anglo atmosphere and a treacherous reputation. For centuries, the town was locked in the valley with few visitors venturing into the area. In the 1930s, Val d’Isere was discovered by skiers and a road to the town was constructed through the valley. This opened the region to travelers and adventurers, and they came in droves. Today, Val d’Isere boasts some of the best ski trails in the Alps. In fact, it played host to a portion of the 1992 Winter Olympics, which helped solidify its status as an elite ski destination. Another side effect of the Olympic Games was to reinvigorate the economy of Val d’Isere, a fact which can be seen in the carefully-maintained chalet-style town center as well as in the modern high-rises that line the eastern side of town. The steep mountains, a bit of lack of planning has made the area known for it's treacherous runs. Several avalanches have wrecked havoc and taken lives. If you are an expert skier you will not be intimidated by the steep, narrow, bumpy slopes of Val d Isere.
