Sololá is a province within Guatemala that encompasses Lake Atitlan. The capital of the region is the town of Sololá. The region is known for it's Mayan indigenous population which comprise 96% of the local population. Sololá is a great destination to view the weekly Mayan market where you can by local produce and handcrafted goods. There are three volcanos in the Sololá Province: Volcán San Atitlan, Volcan Toliman, Volcán San Pedro. Of these three volcanos, Volcano Atitlan is the largest as it reaches 11,600 ft and the most active. It is these series of volcanos that have created the beautiful Lago de Atitlan. Panajachel is a popular village located on the shores of the Lake.
