Cortona Vacations: Things to see while on vacation in Cortona Tuscany

The origins of Cortona date back to the Etruscans during the 6th century BC. The town eventually joined forces with the Romans during the 500 AD and evolved into a city state during the 12th century.
Today, Cortona Italy is recognized as a beautiful ancient medieval city with architecture that dates back to the 13th century. During the Renaissance, several churches were built in Cortona and they still stand today. The town gained notoriety and fame with its portrayal by Francis Mayes while she renovated her home, “Casa Bramasole”. Her most famous work was "Under The Tuscan Sun" which brought to life the friendly people of Cortona, rambling vineyards, lively markets, the many dinners and glasses of wine shared with her neighbors.
