Bonaire is one of the "ABC Islands" of the Netherlands. The capital of Bonaire is Kralendijk. Bonaire is located just north of the coast of Venezuela and due west of the island of Curacao. Bonaire is a coral reef that has over the centuries been elevated through natural forces and today presents itself as an island. The area is known for the numerous coral reefs that surround the island and it is a popular dive destination. Klein Bonaire is a small islet off the coast of Bonaire that is popular as a dive site because of the low level of development and is now part of Bonaire National Marine Park. Located in the northwest region of the island is the Washington Slagbaai National Park which is home to parrots, parakeets, flamingos and iguanas. Lac Bay is an inlet located on the southeastern side of Bonaire and it is a popular windsurfing destination.
