Bay of Islands Vacations: Things to see while on vacation in Bay of Islands Northland

The Bay of Islands is a natural harbor located on the far northeastern coast of New Zealand. The terrain is rugged, mountainous and uneven as it rises along the shoreline creating numerous islands, peninsulas and inlets. It is a popular sailing and fishing destination. Sailboats find protection in the natural harbors and fishermen are attracted to the region because of the big game fish such as marlin, tuna and snapper. The American writer, Zane Grey, visited and fell in love with the area. His stories of his fishing expeditions to the area helped place the Bay of Islands on the international fishing map.
