CULTURE OF SILVES VACATIONS
Silves, an historical town in the Algarve with its abundance of orange and lemon trees, whitewashed buildings with orange tiled roofs is situated on a hill overlooking the Arade River. The town was an ancient Moorish stronghold during the 700's and as such has a large Moorish Castle that dominates its skyline. History can be found everywhere in Silves which reminds visitors of its affluent and swashbuckling past as a Moorish capital. Silves is an ideal place for that truly relaxed holiday where one will find excellent local cafes and restaurants, a variety of vacation accommodations and interesting historic places to visit. Silves is located slightly inland and north of Carvoeiro and Portimão, only a few miles from the coast, so vacationers can have the best of either a place in the country and/or a day at the seaside.
