The city Ford Beauford is situated 444 meters above sea level in the Eastern Cape. Fort Beaufort is located in the center of the citrus farming region in Katriver Valley. This valley is filled with forests, waterfalls, rivers, and deep gorges that lure hikers to the area. Fort Beaufort is home to numerous historical sites that attract many tourists every year. These historical sites include the National Monument, the Martello Tower.

The reserve is also a great site for bass fishing, hiking, and wild viewing. Horse lovers will be in for a pleasant surprise as many of nature and wild viewing can be done on horseback. The nature lovers that visit the area will be able to visit a few nature reserves like the Fort Fordyce Nature Reserve that is only 25km away from Fort Beaufort. The main purpose of this nature reserve is to protect the biodiversity of the reserve and the Afro-montane Forrest surrounding the reserve.

The landscape of Fort Beaufort area is rather diverse. With a combination of the unforgiving Karoo, fruitful Langkloof and the lush Tsitsikamma Forest. This is also a very important agricultural area that mainly produces fruits and grains and also has a few sheep and cattle ranches.
