The Western Province consists of 3 districts: Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara. This section of Sri Lanka is also one of the most densely populated regions. The majority of the population in this region are the Sinhalese, which are native to the island of Sri Lanka. Within this region is also the country's capital, Sri Jayewardenepura, an ancient town from the 13th century but is totally modern by today's standards.
