KATO AKOURDALIA
A small graphic village buried in green with about 40-50 inhabitants. The houses are stoned-built, many of which have been renovated under the Laona Project for Agro tourism.
It is about 10 minutes by car from Polis tis Chrysochous and 20 minutes from Paphos. In Polis tis Chrysochous you can find all kind of amenities for a leisurely stay. Near the paved square in Polis one can find everything one needs, taverns, restaurants, cafeterias, bars etc. You can find all these all over town as well as along the sea road from Polis to Lachi and Aprhodite’s Baths. In Polis you can also find banks, a small hospital and private doctors. Small grocery shops can be found in about 2km from the village.
The only road going through the village on the opposite direction leads to the tiny village of Milliou and on the right hand side another road leads to Pano Akourdalia. On the way to Pano Akourdalia at the old school building there is a small folk museum we suggest you visit together with the wineries found in the next village of Kathikas.
A beautiful country road takes you to a small paradise – the small Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi and the water mills where in old times the locals used to grind wheat. The wild nature, clear water and the company of the birds makes every visitor want to come back. Being on a higher elevation from the sea level makes it cool in the summer months without humidity. One can experience peace of body and mind, enjoy the sea, sun and the beautiful countryside. Walking in the narrow, quaint country lanes with birdsong to accompany you is a sheer delight. And for the fervent cyclist there are the perfect routes for adventures.
PAPHOS
Aphrodite the Goddess of Love, was born from the sea at Paphos beach and her baths are situated hear at Polis tis Chrysochous. Many believe that the area is the most beautiful part of the island. It combines the mountains and the sea and one can easily go from one to the other.
On the Limassol – Paphos road one comes across “Petra tou Romiou” a big rock where according to the myth Digenis fought the invaders/pirates. Aphrodite was born from the sea at this very spot.
In the town of Paphos one can visit the Tombs of the Kings and other archaeological sites, as well as the old castle at the entrance of the quaint little port.
About 25 km from Paphos you find Polis tis Chrysochous – a small town with beautiful beaches, its own little port with many fish taverns and restaurants.
On the opposite direction from Polis one can drive towards Pomos and Pyrgos. This is a beautiful drive with fantastic view of the sea and the mountains.
At the other side of Polis one can visit Aphrodite’s Baths, the place where Aphrodite bathed. A small natural grotto at the base of the mountain. The Akamas peninsula begins here. A beautiful area with wild vegetation, fantastic beaches, plants and flowers endemic to the area.
4-wheel drive cars make organised tours in the area. One can also have access to the area by sea. However, the best way is on foot or by bicycle.
