Trinidad and Tobago Vacations

Trinidad and Tobago is an island nation with two islands located only 7 miles off the coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea. The capital city is Port-of-Spain. The official language is English but Spanish is also widely spoken. Trinidad was a possession of Spain during the 15th and 16th centuries until the British captured the island in 1797. The islands achieved independence in 1976 and became the island nation: Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad is the most developed of the two islands and is the country's industrial center. There are significant oil and gas reserves and is known as the leading Caribbean producer of oil and gas. The islands are also known for being the source and origin of Calypso music which eventually spread through all the Caribbean. The music has it's roots in West African Tribal songs. The island of Tobago is very popular with divers because there are over 54 different sites located off the shores of the island. A very small island located off the eastern shore of Tobago is Little Tobago Island and it is home to a seabird sanctuary.
