HISTORY AND CULTURE OF MARRAKESH VACATIONS

Marrakesh is an ancient city filled with palaces, gardens and was founded in 1071-72 by Youssef ben Tachfin, who was part of the Almoravids Dynasty and a part of the Berber nation. The ochre walls that surround the medina were first built in 1126-27. Through the centuries, Marrakesh has been the capital for various rulers. The Almohad rulers gained control during 1147-1269 and declared Marrakesh their capital and built the Koutoubia Mosque. The Saadian rulers (1510-1669) and constructed the El Badi Palace and the Saadian tombs. The medina of Marrakesh is considered a site of major historical importance and culture and is on the Unesco World Heritage List.
